We went dress shopping this weekend!

Well I simply had a perfect weekend! My mom and my sister both came in to town on Friday so we could have a girls weekend, and most importantly so we could go wedding dress shopping!!

It was sort of a last minute decision for them to come this weekend but looking at the calendar we didn't see too many other open weekends coming up and I'm so glad it worked out for both of them to be here. Knowing that it takes quite a while for a dress to be ordered, and knowing I will more than likely need alterations we didn't want to wait too long. Plus.... we wanted to do something to finally move this wedding forward.

Mom got in first on Friday and met me at my office. My sister's flight was getting in later so we metroed over to Old Town, Alexandria (which I hadn't visited since T.J. and I got engaged there) for dinner since it's conveniently close to the airport. We took the trolley down King Street and hopped off near the waterfront. Old Town is so charming with it's brick streets and twinkle lights in the trees year round. It has a Southern small town feel to it that I love. I was being a little indecisive about where we should eat, which made me nervous for our dress shopping the next day, but we finally decided on Fish Market a place my roommate always raves about. Funnily enough, I saw a fellow DC blogger also dining there and had to say hi. I've never met any readers or bloggers in real life before and I think she was surprised that I recognized her but I had literally just read an older post of hers on recommendations for places to eat in the city earlier that day.

After our run in mom and I were seated outside on the narrow balcony at the top of the restaurant which is great for people watching on the streets below.
After dinner we wandered over to the waterfront and enjoyed the remaining daylight while listening to a band at the yacht club playing beach music before hunting down some ice cream- Rocky Road for both of us.
We took our time walking back to the metro and then it was time to meet sister at the airport. She was delayed, and a little cranky, but she finally arrived! I always knew I wanted just my mom and my sister to come dressing shopping with me. No one else. They're my two best girlfriends, and they just know me. I wanted them to be the first ones to see me in a wedding dress and wanted their opinion. And I knew with them, there would be no pressure. So it only made sense that they be there this weekend, it wouldn't have been the same without both of them.
We had a looonnnng trek home on the metro, which I'm not going to get into, and then we all fell into bed as soon as we got back to my house. Saturday morning came a little earlier than we would have liked but we quickly perked up because it was wedding dress shopping day! After watching every Say Yes to the Dress episode it was my turn! And I'll be sharing all about that experience tomorrow... sorry. It's just too much goodness for one post, I need to spread it around.

  2. Can't wait to hear all about it! I am headed to visit Brooke (branders.blogspot) this weekend. We haven't spent any time in Alexandria since her being there in DC. I think we will do that Sunday or Monday.

    1. So fun! I haven't spent too much time in Alexandria since it's not too close to where I live, but every time I go out there I'm reminded how cute and fun it is.

  3. Cannot wait to hear about dress shopping! It was so nice to meet you and your mom in Old Town! I was shocked that you noticed me. I think that was the first time I have bumped into someone out-and-about. All of my other blogger meet-ups have been pre-planned. Such a small world!

    1. The smallest world! It was the first time I've bumped into a blogger in real life as well! But D.C is definitely a bubble, I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often!
