Updated: Best Weekend of Your Life!

This past weekend I took some awesome kids to Windy Gap!
It was epic!
Getting there however, was quite the unexpected adventure. Windy Gap is a Young Life camp in North Carolina, only about an hour and a half away from where I live. However, it happened to be snowing pretty darn hard on Friday when we left. We barely made it out of the parking lot....
Yep, as you can see in the picture above, one of the buses bus went too far to the left and got stuck in a ditch, then the bus behind him tried to go around and got stuck on the other side.... that should have been our first hint that this was not going to be a simple drive. (Fortunately for our bus, our driver was from Alaska so the snowfall that some of our kids called a blizzard was no big deal for him.) In total the bus ride ended up taking close to 7 hours! I KNOW! And we had to walk the last little bit because the buses couldn't make it up the hill inside the camp gates. We ended up eating "dinner" at 12:30 am and then we had club! It was pretty awesome actually to see just how much excitement my high school friends and fellow leaders could muster after sitting on the exact same part of the high way for around 4 hours...Of course we crashed pretty much immediately after club at 3 am.

I don't know if any of you all have ever been to Windy Gap but it is one of the most beautiful places! This is what I walked out of my cabin each morning...

I have never been to Windy Gap when it was covered in snow before but it just made God's presence even more amazingly obvious.
Above are most of the kids from the highschool that I am a leader at but overall there were 250 kids there. I can't really explain just how amazing young life camp is- it's life changing. I couldn't do it justice so I'm not going to try tonight because I am drained from this weekend. Maybe another time.

But I do want to tell you all about the musical guests that played at all the clubs this weekend-I am in love! Drew and Ellie Holcomb.
They are awesome!

* I attached one of their songs to this post! This song is called Mercy and it should play. All their music is on itunes and it is soooo worth it. Enjoy.

  4. Looks like so much fun Shannon! I love YL weekends, and I know the snow made everything even more exciting. I think Windy Gap is the only YL camp on the East Coast I haven't been to yet...one day!
