Soon...

Soon it will be spring! And I have so many things to look forward to, spring term is jam packed with fun functions and events! I will probably be doing individual posts on all these activities but here is a preview of what I am going to be up to during my last view months of college.

Spring Break: It cannot get here soon enough! I am going to Destin, Florida with a bunch of people. We rented houses all close by to each other and I cannot wait to unwind at the beach and get a tan! This is my first (and last, I guess) spring break to stay in the country. The past three years I went home to England. (Last year my boyfriend came with me and got to my parents for the first time!) Destin will be a completely different kind of break, for starters it will actually feel like spring, which comes a little later in England.

Carolina Cup: This is like a less classy, less expensive version of the Kentucky Derby, and a much much more Southern version of Preakness. It's like a horse race in that everyone dresses up in Vineyard Vines and Lilly (except I don't own any Lilly, I know right, how do I live in the South?) The girls wear hats and the guys wear bow-ties and there is a lot of pastels and seersucker floating around. The thing is though... I've never actually seen the horse race. Fraternities rent lots on a big field around the track, bring couches and grills and corn-hole and everyone just hangs out. I'm usually too busy socializing to bother with the horses. The below picture is me at cup freshman year. I have a great hat that I wore last year, but I'm going to wear it again this year so I don't want to spoil the surprise. Freshmen year was the only year it didn't rain, I'm holding out hope for senior year.
Formals: I am so excited for my last sorority formal but I am probably even more excited for my boyfriend's fraternity formal. Fraternity formals are a weekend-long extravaganza. And this year it is in Charleston! We drive down on Friday and spend Saturday at the beach and then that night is the actual dance. It is SO MUCH FUN!

Beach Weekend: Best weekend of college. Fraternities rent hotels out in Myrtle Beach and everyone who signs up pretty much skips Friday (sometimes Thursday) classes and heads to the beach (it's not really supported by the school...). Also the fraternities rent bands to play in the evenings! It is so much fun to hang out with all of your best friends at the beach! Plus it's usually the same time as biker week in Myrtle which always adds to the entertainment.
(Last beach weekend Needtobreathe played and that's what is pictured above- if you don't know who they are you should, I've included a clip for your listening pleasure.)
So, in conclusion, even though we may actually be getting more snow this week, I have the promise of these fun spring activities to keep me going!

  1. Shannon, it sounds like you have a wonderful end to your senior year. I know you are so excited!! Adelaide is going to Destin, but I bet you all don't have spring break the same week. She also really wants to go to the Carolina's Cup one year. I don't know if she will make it down this year, or not. Myrtle Beach is always fun!!! I just got home tonight from spending the weekend with girlfriends at the beach. You will have to get yourself a Lilly dress. I love my Lilly outfits. The colors are so bright and cheerful!! Enjoy spring and I know you are looking forward to your upcoming graduation! Love & blessings from NC!

  4. Just found your blog through Kelly's Korner. Sounds like you have a lot to look forward too! I'm finishing up my senior year of college too, so it's nice to read about someone who I can relate to!

  5. Hello, I'm a first time visitor from Kelly's Corner.

It looks like your going to have an amazing spring. I'm going to Vegas for Spring Break, but that's about all the fun I have planned. The beach would be amazing, but I'm landlocked in Oklahoma!
