The Sweet Life

I had a crazy Friday night- stayed up until 2am.... cleaning my closet!
I had to break out my summer clothes bins and decide what cold-weather0clothing needed to stay out a littler longer and what winter gear could be put away in exchange for summer dresses and shorts! I am now officially ready to start packing for the beach!

Saturday started with a trip to The Original Pancake House- pancakes and bacon are the perfect way to start any weekend if you ask me!

We then bundled up and headed to the Sweetlife Festival. The weather was unpredictable and yucky like last year but the awesome tunes and the even more awesome people watching (a lot of under-dressed and over-drunk hooligans) more than distracted me from the rain. And this year I remembered to bring a rain coat with a hood so I was pretty happy dancing in the rain!

With my sweet roommates: you can tell by the non-frizziness of our hair that this was pre-rain shower.

The Shins played so many of their older songs/ a bunch of my favorites!
I ♥ them.

Our evening ended after Kid Cudi! He was so much fun!!! My roommates were less impressed but I had a blast dancing like a fool in a huge crowd!

Sunday I was pretty exhausted but my darling sister woke me up with a cheery phone call and all was well. I can't wait to see her on Friday and then get to spend an entire week celebrating her graduation.

Later that day I hit up H&M. I had pinned a couple cute things from there and was not disappointed! I could have bought 100 different things. I was mostly looking for stuff to take to the beach and fill in the gaps my closet cleaning pointed out! And while I did buy a cute dress and new shorts (both mint colored) I scored some new work wear (also in mint...) that I'm hoping it will be warm enough to wear this week.

More on my mint madness tomorrow...

By the way- I linked up with Miscellany Monday. Thought I'd just do something a little different for today since this wasn't the most well thought out post.

Finally Friday

This has been a looongggg week and I'm so over it!
I'm totally drained mentally and can't wait to skip out the front door of my office at 5:30pm (not 7pm which has been the time every other day this week).

Tomorrow will be my reward for such a busy week!
I'm going to....

I went last year, it was my first weekend in D.C. and I'm excited to just unwind, enjoy some awesome music and time with my friends (hopefully it wont rain this year).

I cannot believe I have been up here for a whole year! I still sometimes feel like I just graduated but it's been 2 years and now my little sister is the one graduating! Where, oh where, has the time gone?

Hope everyone has a great Friday and an awesome weekend!

Busy Week

We have a crazy-insane-jam-packed week at work. There will be lots of early mornings and probably crashing at night. Fortunately it all equals overtime pay for me which is a great thing since I'm taking a week off of work in 2 weeks!! Of course being a "grownup" means this is paid vacation time that I've earned. But still it's nice to build up a couple extra hours before checking out!

And I plan to be really checked out! I get all my work emails on my phone which is sometimes a really useful thing. Other times it's pretty stressful seeing the unread message number climb into triple digits knowing that's what I'll have to face on Monday after my vacation.

Anywho.. this is all stuff that I can think about after this crazy week is over!

I spent the weekend with my aunt, uncle and cousins who live less than an hour away. On Saturday we enjoyed the beautiful weather and watched this guy play some awesome baseball:
(look at that stance!)
I may have gotten a little too much sun on my left shoulder and my nose but, oh well, had to get that out of the way at some point this summer.

After the game and some more time sitting in the sun in the back yard. My aunt and I headed to Loft to look for a gift and of course for ourselves. I've been loving the long skirt trend....
So I picked up this one...
I think it will be fun with a cute tank and bare feet walking in the sand to eat dinner on the beach. Or my bright bright neon sandals here. AHH!! Is it too soon to start packing??
Day-dreaming about my toes in the sand is keeping me motivated.

Just got to get through 2 more weeks!!

The Weekend and What Not

On Saturday I ran a bunch of errands that included a trip to a dance supply store where I finally got new ballet slippers and a new leotard!
Next step- going to a class on Wednesday!

My mom brought me a spare set of queen size sheets for my new mattress that I got a Christmas but I've been meaning to get a new set ever since. After a trip to Home Goods I found really pretty and soft green Calvin Klein sheets. I then headed to Target (again) and got a new Shabby Chic duvet cover and shams.
I also bought two new lamps to go on the end tables by my sofa and put the lamps that were originally there on my nightstand and dresser. One year later and I'm finally finished decorating my bedroom....
On Sunday I headed back to Target (I swear three trips in one week is not normal, even for me) and bought some photo albums. I printed 400+ photos from all 4 years of college. What's the point of taking all these pictures if they're just going to live in a folder on my computer?
I plan to have two albums dedicated just to college and a separate album for Young Life photos. And I'll continue to add to them and make more albums with post-grad photos and pics from Young Life team weddings for instance. I love having an actual photo in front of me to look at and I can add notes to help me remember who everyone is when I'm old and looking at them with grandkids.

Warm Weather Wish List

As I mentioned the other day I will be heading to the beach in less than a month! I have a few things I want to do and purchase before then! This is not the deepest post I've ever written...
  • Get a mani/pedi- I painted my nails (poorly) this color the other day (Urban Outfitters- "Smush") and I'm loving it for summer. It reminds me of a mermaid or the pool. Anyway I really want to get a gel manicure which I've never tried before but have heard it lasts so much longer!
  • Gradually expose myself to more sunlight so I don't fry the first day on the beach....
  • New bathing suit!
  • Beach reads- I cruise through books when I'm lounging with my toes in the water. Any good suggestions that I have to check out this summer?? I currently have South Of Broad and The Hobbit sitting on my night stand if that gives you any idea of what I'm interested in.
  • More summer dresses- I got a gift card to Target in my Easter basket (thanks Mema!) and last night I tried a few things on but nothing really stood out to me. That doesn't mean I left empty handed though! I picked up this adorable straw bag and these neon sandals (which are actually from the girls department but I made them fit)! I'm loving all the bright colors for this season!

  • Get a haircut- This one is still a question mark. I haven't cut my hair since October and it's gotten pretty darn long (that is an gross understatement). I've been growing it out with the intention of giving it to Locks of Love or Beautiful Lengths or Wigs for Kids but I have a weird attachment to my "hippie" hair. Ideally I need a few more inches so I'd still have plenty to work with afterwards. No one close to me actually believes I'll go through with this. Am I crazy? Should I take the plunge? Should I just get a trim and stop talking about my hair now?

    This picture scares me...
I'm sure there are a few more things that should be on this list but all this worrying (on my part) about my hair has me distracted. I think I can answer my own question above- Yes, I am indeed crazy!

Too Short Weekend

I was reunited briefly with my family for the weekend which is never enough time!

They picked me up from the train station Friday evening and we headed into NYC for the best steak dinner I've had in a long time (maybe ever). Seriously [huge] delicious steaks is not something I have the pleasure of enjoying very often. Sister and shared and we still had plenty left over for steak and eggs on Easter Sunday. Steak with breakfast is also something I could get used to...
My parents recently returned from a two-week vacation (for my mom, work trip for my dad) in Asia (Shanghai, Hong Kong, Taipei) so we had lots of stories to catch up on and they had lots of pictures to show me!

After a breezy picnic on Saturday afternoon we changed into sweats to relax and sister and I dyed Easter eggs. Yes I'm 23, yes I still enjoy this! It lets me get my craft on and Martha has so many cute ways to dye eggs. We ended up using my eggs (which had everyone's initials on them as a sort of place-card. So there.

Sunday we got dressed up for church (I did get a new dress from UO- not the one I mentioned here but still with some lacey details and even prettier in my opinion.) I loved all the hymns we sang ("...death in vain forbids him rise, Alleluia! Christ has opened paradise, Alleluia!").

After church we (and my job was mostly just pouring sweet tea for everyone) got a yummy lunch ready with all my favorites. My mom wasn't planning on serving pineapple stuffing but I mentioned it in my last post and guilted her into adding it to the menu- of course no one complained. Since it doesn't take that long to pour iced tea... I got to relax outside with my dad and enjoy the beautiful weather and the NJ wildlife (like the brand new family of baby foxes in their side yard- too cute!)

The pup was around too. She was excited to have extra people in the house and wanted to make sure we didn't go anywhere without her. Here she is anxiously waiting outside my parents door. She was convinced they were talking about her and hates being left out.

I don't like to sleep in too late when I'm only home for a few days and we try to pack as much into a short weekend as possible- lots of yummy food, relaxing family time, bananagrams (of course) and extra hugs. Sometimes I catch myself during the weekend already dreading when I have to say goodbyes. Fortunately I will be reunited for a much longer visit (at the beach!!!) in 26 days. My mom and I counted!

just as He said

24 Now Thomas, one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!”

But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.”

26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”

29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Hallelujah! Thank you God for being more faithful than the mornings and more gracious, loving and forgiving than I deserve. Dying for me on the cross and then overcoming death, just as you said you would!

Happy glorious Easter to you and your families!

One More Sleep...

...till I'm home with my family!

Sadly Spring Break does not exist in the corporate environment that I find myself in so I don't get any time off this weekend. (It really bothers me that I don't get Good Friday off...but I wont go into that).

Fortunately I'm still leaving work a little early tomorrow and taking the train up to NJ for a drive-by visit with my parents and sister. I'm looking forward to good ol' quality time with them, relaxing and catching up and enjoying yummy food:

I ♥ deviled eggs, ham, pineapple dressing (I hope)!

Usually I get a new dress to wear to church on Easter but I haven't done much shopping lately. I haven't gotten all my spring/summer clothes out of storage yet and that's such a pain so I might have to pop into Urban Outfitters after work and get this cute lacey frock. I tried it on in yellow a while back but I think I like the pink better. And with a fun bright color belt or jewelry.

I might have to pick up a few more springy pieces to add to my wardrobe while I'm in there...

April Goals

Buckhead Belle posts monthly goals. They're short and simple and it would be a good thing to have to look back on at the end of the month and see if I accomplished any of them. I have 2 goals this month that have appeared on pretty much every new years resolution since I started college and a few blog past posts as well- so we will see if April is the month I finally check them off!

1. Cook more- I buy my lunch and sometimes both lunch and dinner most days. That is the farthest thing from economical. I love to cook truly. But cooking for one is hard. I find that I usually have to buy more than I need and then it goes to waste. Or I have to eat the same thing every day for lunch and dinner (which my roommate does but I could NEVER do!) My goal is to find some simple, easy recipes that have ingredients that overlap and can easily be made for just one meal or they make good left overs that can be transformed into a different dish the next day.

2. Exercise (finally)- So remember how sweet Peter got me a gift card to a ballet studio for Christmas? Well, the place is closed now so I still haven't started dancing like I had planned. I hate gyms, I loathe running, I even despise talking about exercise because it's just so boring, blah, blah, blah. I like exercise to not seem like actual "work." I will never be motivated to come home from a long day of work and then go work out if I don't love the activity. Yoga and/or BALLET. It's happening! Period
